The evolving situation in the Middle East is deeply concerning and needs immediate attention. Violence against civilians, from any side, is unacceptable and is strongly condemned. Under International Law, “collective punishment” of a civilian population is not allowed. More than two million Palestinian civilians, half of whom are children, continue to be deprived of food, water, medication, shelter, electricity, and other necessities. This is a political conflict, which is rooted in Israel’s 75-year-long ongoing occupation of the indigenous Palestinian land. The conflict has claimed thousands of innocent lives and displacement of millions of Palestinian civilians. The Israeli Government has been urged by the UN and World Health Organization to rescind their order to evacuate civilians from Gaza.
As many Canadians continue to worry about their loved ones overseas, we must call for kindness and compassion and mediate to bring in lasting peace to the region.
Canada cannot take sides with any of the forces involved in this conflict. We have a heavy responsibility to mediate and attempt to obtain a peaceful resolution, based upon justice and absolute fairness. Canada must use its resources, and good offices to find a lasting resolution, ending the genocide of innocent people of Gaza, return of hostages peacefully through diplomatic means.
The Centrist Party of Canada stands firm on the resolve that Canada is in a very strong position to mediate and convince other countries to take a neutral and just stand in thus conflict and complete and absolute application of international law.
