STATEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL CONFLICTS

STATEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL CONFLICTS

Canada is a country of rule of law and at the international stage Canada plays a peace keeping and peace promoting role. Former Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson’s work on this issue has been a landmark in the history of Canada. Canada is an anti-apartheid and anti-colonization country. Former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney’s role against Apartheid in South Africa has been acknowledged at the international stage. Canada does not support any injustice irrespective of the position of all its allies. Canada is a partner of peace, not of war. Former Prime Minister Jean Chretien position about invasion of Iraq is a known example in this case. Our foreign policy must be based upon complete justice, absolute fairness, equality, non-violence and protection of human rights. We are trade partners of many countries but not necessarily war partners.

Hong Kong- Mainland China Conflict:

The Hong Kong-Mainland China conflict refers to the tense relations between Hong Kong and mainland China and it has resulted in protests in Hong Kong. The Canada should support a peaceful solution to this conflict based upon diplomacy.

Kashmir Conflict:

This conflict has been ongoing since 1948. We believe the Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan should be resolved by the right of self determination of people of both sides of Kashmir. Kashmiris on each side has same language, culture and history. Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris and not to Pakistan or India. We believe it should a united, independent sovereign state with equal rights and democratic principles.

Khalistan Conflict:

The conflict between Sikh minority of India and Indian government has been ongoing since 1984 when operation Blue Star was conducted against the Sikh community and the holy temple of Sikh Faith was attacked and burnt in which thousands of innocent people, women and children were killed. We believe the ongoing oppression of Sikh community must stop and Sikh Community’s demand of a separate national homeland should be determined peacefully, by nonviolent means and holding a referendum in the state of Indian Punjab.

Middle East Conflict:

The two-state solution which has been discussed by United Nations has failed for long time. It has not resulted in any resolution of this conflict and many experts on the Middle East believe it is practically dead. One state solution is a proposed approach to the Palestine conflict. It suggests the establishment of a single state within the boundaries of Mediterranean Sea and Jordan River. Also, under the current situation this area is one of a de facto country. The one state solution sometimes is referred as binational or multinational state in which Muslims, Christians, Jews, and other ethnicities can live together with complete independence and equal rights. There will be a unitary State with a single government and citizenship and equal voting rights to all ethnic and religious groups in this land. This will be a federal state in which all people share the power, and everyone will be equal before law. This democratic state will include all of the area between Mediterranean Sea and Jordan River. Many experts on international relations and Middle East believe this is most consistent with the historical facts and appeals to people who believe in equality, complete justice, absolute fairness, everlasting peace, nonviolence, rule of law, and protection of human rights.

Russia -Ukraine Conflict

The war between Russia and Ukraine must immediately end. Russia should withdraw from any occupied territory of Ukraine. Canada should have no direct or indirect involvement in this war. Canada should paly a peace promoting role rather than igniting the war. The solution of this conflict should be achieved by diplomatic means.
